So…my deep dark confession for this Sunday is…I have been known to go to great lengths…and I mean GREAT lengths to keep my kids from napping in the car.
I don’t know if this is all kids but if either of my kidlets fall asleep in the car, even if it’s for a nano-second and I mean literally if the eye lids close for shorter then any amount of marked time they think they’ve had a nap and are good to go…which means my friends that they won’t nap when we get home.
Naptime for me is sacred. Having 2 kids as close together as they are is hard, and naptime is when I get shit done or do a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y nothing…as I feel it is my right as their mother. I NEED that time to decompress, get ready for dinner, do the laundry or catch-up on my RHoNJ!! Tell me I’m not the only one!?
So back to the GREAT lengths…I have a squirt bottle in my car. Yup! I said a squirt bottle. When I start to see someone drifting off or settling in a little too much they get a misting. Not a crazy stream like you do to your cat to get them to stop scratching at your couch but a mist people! Just enough to get them to snap outta the dreamlike state they’re headed into. The kidlets are by no means tortured…they’re just fine! They usually laugh, we all laugh and then they ask for more…which suits me just fine as long as they STAY AWAKE!!!!
|Just 'caught' Colton about ready to nod off...window opening!|
I’ve also been known to crank up the “Little People’s Dance Tunes” rocking out to “If your happy and you know it” and rolling down the windows comes in handy also.
Anyone else out there go to extreme lengths to keep their kids from napping in the car? Share your thoughts…tips/tricks??
